This is a stand-alone book, so the story is quick-paced, the main plot is settled within the first chapters, this helped me a lot to get into the story very rapidly. I've devoured this story in just a couple of days, it was so so good!
The book is well written, the story is good and the plot twists are well "distributed" throughout the book.
I fell in love with each character. Elizabeth, the main female character, is that kind of bookworm girl that finds her happiness within books but at the same time, she is curious and somewhat brave. She is the type to have prejudicial thoughts very early on but as the story goes on becomes more open-minded. She crosses path with Nathaniel, the male main character. He is the typical "I am manly and powerful" kind of guy but deep down he is soft and just needs love. At first, he may seems like a bit of a flirt, but he is really just a gentleman that tries to hide his tortured life.
To be honest I think Silas, the servant of Nathaniel, the soft-spoken gentleman, was my favorite character. He really captured my attention, I loved seeing the two sides of his "personality" the side of him that care deeply for Nathaniel and the other the side that just wants to ... You will understand what I'm talking about if you read the book.
It made me laugh out loud and ugly cry, a lot ! I’m pretty sure my heart was ripped out and crashed multiple times... I got attached to the characters really quickly so I felt their pain… so much pain.
Personally, I loved the ending,
I know a lot of readers didn't like because it's an "open" ending as if the book was part of a series.
If you like soft Fantasy YA books, this one is right up your alley! I do think this is perfect as a "read beach" it's fun to read and not that long, perfect for a summer afternoon under the sun.

Cela faisait un moment que je n'avais pas lu ce genre de livre fantastique. J'ai découvert ce livre par pur hasard, grâce à Amazon, il était sur ma liste de livres recommandés. Au début, je ne savais pas si j'aimerais le style de l'auteur mais j'ai décidé de lui donner une chance et je ne le regrette pas du tout!
Il s'agit d'un livre "seul" aucune suite n'est prévue. L'histoire est rapide, l'intrigue principale est réglée dans les premiers chapitres, on ne passe pas 150 pages à nous expliquer le pourquoi du comment l'univers du livre fonctionne. Perso je trouve que cela m'a beaucoup aidé à me plonger dans l'histoire plus rapidement. J'ai dévoré cette histoire en quelques jours, c'était tellement bien!
Le livre est bien écrit, l'histoire est intéressante et les rebondissements dans l'intrigue sont bien "distribués" tout au long du livre.
Je suis tombée amoureuse de chaque personnage. Elizabeth, le personnage féminin principal, est le genre de jeune fille que l'on peut identifier comme un rat de bibliothèque, elle trouve son bonheur dans les livres, mais en même temps, elle est curieuse et un tant soit peu courageuse. Elle est le genre de personne à avoir énormément de préjugés sur tout et n'importe quoi , mais au fur et à mesure que l'histoire continue, elle devient plus ouverte d'esprit. (cette phrase est-elle française, j'en doute...)
Elle croise la route de Nathaniel, le personnage principal masculin. Il est le genre de mec viril et puissant, mais au fond il est doux et a juste besoin d'amour. Au début, il peut sembler un peu comme un flirt, mais ce n'est vraiment qu'un gentleman qui essaie de cacher sont passé noir et torturé.
Pour être honnête, je pense que Silas, le serviteur de Nathaniel, le gentleman à la voix douce, est mon personnage préféré. Il a vraiment attiré mon attention, j'ai adoré voir les deux côtés de sa "personnalité" le côté de lui qui se soucie profondément de Nathaniel et l'autre du côté qui veut juste ... Vous comprendrez de quoi je parle si vous lisez le livre.
Ce livre m'a fait beaucoup rire et pleurer. Je suis presque sûr que mon cœur a été arraché plusieurs fois en lisant ce bouquin...
Personnellement, j'ai adoré la fin. Je sais que beaucoup de lecteurs n'ont pas aimé parce que c'est une fin "ouverte" comme si le livre faisait partie d'une série.
Si vous aimez les livres du style "Soft- Fantasy YA", celui-ci est fait pour vous! Je pense que c'est parfait comme "lecture de plage", c'est amusant à lire et pas si long, parfait pour un après-midi d'été sous le soleil.
