Thanks to that novel, I fell down the “proper romance” rabbit hole…
I had a hard time putting this book down. Let's just say that when I picked it up (just to read a few pages just to decide if it was something I wanted to read at the moment), I realized that I couldn't stop reading until it was finished. Because it was so good and couldn't put it down, I even read in the pool (thank goodness my Kindle is waterproof). That shows how much this book was addictive !!

First off, it's a beautiful story that has all the elements of a Jane Austen novel. I adored every second of it, and the romance and humor were perfect. The plot is entertaining, packed with exciting adventures and fascinating characters. Even if the reader can spot the heroine's love interest right away, the development of their relationship stays entertaining to read.
Secondly, the writing style is splendid! It has a classical feel to it but uses more contemporary language to make it easier to read without compromising the historical setting. I could imagine Edenbrooke as clearly as if I were actually there with the characters. The descriptions the author wrote were excellent and really reinforced the vision that I had of the estate, which is basically a slightly different version of Pimberley … What did you expect, Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book...
Currently, I wish to spend a week at Edenbrooke Estate acting like a young woman in the 1800s (but with the rights that I have in the 21st-century society).

As for the characters, I loved them.
Marianne immediately won my heart. She's young, very quirky, she's out-spoken and shy at the same time, and maybe a bit naive, but I like her for having a strong sense of humor and a genuine, sincere heart.  She is nice, and has good morals, what is there to not like about her? Nothing.
The twin sister, Cecily, was a bit annoying at times. I found her selfish, she didn't really pay attention to her sister even if it has been over a year since they last saw each other.
Now Phillip, let's talk about him. He had a great sense of duty and was a great flirt. Although sometimes his flirty moments were unnecessary, I'm not really complaining, because his playful, quirky, flirtatious behavior made for some very funny scenes.

He completely won me over with the way he passionately falls in love with our heroine. He is respectful, sweet, and honest, and he treats Marianne so nicely.

The relationship between him and our heroine was fantastic. I loved their dialogue loaded with humor and small bickering!  It's clearly a “he falls first and harder” type of situation, it's refreshing seeing the man chasing after the woman and not the contrary.

I'll stop there, otherwise, I risk spoiling the whole plot for you.

Anyone looking for a simple romance should definitely give this a try.

J'ai eu du mal à lâcher ce livre. Disons simplement que lorsque je l'ai pris pour lire quelques pages juste pour décider si c'était quelque chose que je voulais lire, j'ai très vite compris que je ne pouvais pas arrêter de lire tant qu'il n'était pas terminé. C'était tellement bien, que j'ai même lu dans la piscine (Dieu merci, ma Kindle est étanche). Cela montre à quel point ce livre était addictif !!

Tout d'abord, c'est une belle histoire qui a tous les éléments d'un roman de Jane Austen. J'ai adoré chaque seconde de cette lecture. La romance et l'humour étaient parfaits. L'intrigue est divertissante, remplie d'aventures passionnantes et de personnages fascinants. Même si le lecteur peut repérer tout de suite l'intérêt amoureux de l'héroïne, l'évolution de leur relation reste divertissante à lire.

Deuxièmement, le style d'écriture est splendide ! Il y a un aspect classique mais l'auteure utilise un langage plus contemporain pour faciliter la lecture sans compromettre le cadre historique (les personnages utilisent un language assez soutenu).

Je pouvais imaginer Edenbrooke aussi clairement que si j'y étais avec les personnages. Les descriptions que l'auteure a écrites étaient excellentes et ont vraiment renforcé la vision que j'avais du domaine, qui est en vérité une version légèrement différente de Pimberley… Qu'est-ce vous voulez, Orgueil et Préjugés est mon livre préféré !

Actuellement, je souhaite passer une semaine à Edenbrooke Estate pretendant être dans les années 1800 (mais avec les droits que j'ai dans la société du 21e siècle, of course!).

Quant aux personnages, je les ai adorés.

Marianne a immédiatement conquis mon cœur. Elle est jeune, elle est franche et timide en même temps, peut-être un peu naïve sur les bords, mais je l'aime pour son sens de l'humour et son grand cœur ainsi que sa sincérité. Elle est gentille, a de bonnes manières, qu'y a-t-il à ne pas aimer chez elle ? Rien.

La sœur jumelle de Marianne, Cecily, était parfois un peu ennuyeuse. Je la trouvais égoïste, elle ne prétait pas vraiment attention à sa sœur même si cela fait plus d'un an qu'elles ne se sont pas vues. Not cool ! 

Maintenant parlons de  Phillip. C'est un vrai gentleman avec son sens aigu du devoir tout en étant un grand flirt.  Bien que, parfois, ces moments de flirt n'étaient pas nécessaires, je ne m'en plains pas vraiment car son comportement exentrique et drageur crée des scènes très divertissantes et amusantes.

Il m'a complètement conquise par la façon dont il tombe passionnément amoureux de notre héroïne. Il est respectueux, charmant et honnête. Que demande le peuple !? 

Sa relation avec Marianne est fantastique. J'ai adoré leurs dialogues chargés d'humour et leurs petites querelles ! C'est clairement une situation où le mec tombe amoureux le premier , c'est rafraîchissant de voir l'homme courir après la femme et non le contraire.

Je vais m'arrêter là, sinon je risque de vous spoiler toute l'intrigue.

Toute personne à la recherche d'une romance simple devrait certainement essayer de lire cette merveille !
